I have concerns relative to the potential for violence as a result of the souring atmosphere within the Roswell Police Department

THE REAL JOKE IS ON US

Dear Beacon,

As if the Democrat controlled Congress was not a cruel enough joke on America, last week they called comedian Steven Colbert as an “expert” witness on immigration. His credentials…he worked on a farm for one day.
The same Democrat chairman, who invited Colbert, is also the chairman of the ethics committee. She could not find the time for an ethics hearing about Democrat Reps. Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters, until after the election.
Also, the same Congress who found time to listen to Colbert could not find the time to vote on continuing the Bush tax cuts. And these tax cuts (tax cuts for the rich, according to the Democrats) will save a family of four, earning $50,000, $1,900 per year. So when your taxes go up by $1,900 next year, you can thank the Democrat controlled Congress.
The Democrats say the Republicans are blocking the vote. The truth is, Democrats have large majorities in the House (259 to 176) and the Senate (59 to 41). They don’t need one Republican vote to pass anything. Did it stop them from passing the Stimulus giveaway or Obamacare? Unfortunately, the mainstream media refuses to tell you that -- and the Republican leadership (Boehner and McConnell) are too stupid to tell you.
The Democrat Party is no longer the party of JFK. The way to reverse the socialist cancer they have foisted upon us, is to send a message and vote the Democrats out on November 2nd. And the larger the margin, the louder the message!

RPD BRASS COULD GO ON A DANGEROUS WITCH-HUNT

Attention Roswell Council Members,

I have concerns relative to the potential for violence as a result of the souring atmosphere within the Roswell Police Department.
It will worsen as more unsavory details are revealed in The Beacon each week.
It is my understanding that the number of sources coming forward to The Beacon as a result of their investigative series is proliferating by the day.
This could likely result in an attempt by the top management of the RPD to intimidate both the local media and it sources.
I know for a fact that Beacon publisher John Fredericks has been a target of their intimidation tactics in the past.
I know for a fact that Fredericks has gone to the FBI at least once, seeking protection.
FYI, during the last internal investigation in December 2008, city employee phone records were searched for sources of leaks.
This has been brought to your attention previously.
Be advised that your continued complacency in this matter could ultimately result in complicity. You may ultimately be held responsible if you fail to recognize the reality of the situation and act swiftly to engage outside law enforcement to take control of the situation to insure the safety of our cops and our local residents.
The reality is that numerous good officers have already left RPD due to blatant abuses of power and ongoing miss-management.
The few good officers remaining will not likely tolerate the situation much longer.
This is no longer a “Personnel Issue.” It’s a now a public safety issue.

RPD CHIEF WILLIAMS: GOOD RIDDANCE

Thank goodness this good old boy overachiever RPD Police Chief Ed Williams is on the way out. Living in Roswell for the last 10-years, I am disgusted at how the police operate in what I thought was a progressive community when I first bought a home here. Roswell operates like a little Southern Georgia hamlet complete with the “Barney Patrol” eager to pull you over for essentially any moving violation they set up to trap you.
The “Barney Patrol” harasses legal residents and the Mexican community who hang out on Hwy. 120 looking for day work. They busted a card game a few years ago and called in the SWAT team as an exercise in busting up a card game, yet another victimless crime. Our Barney Mayor, with his bow tie apparel seems to symbolize some of the stupidest zoning I have ever seen. When you travel on Hightower Road from Magnolia, have you ever seen more haphazard [planning]? The roads are all patched and look like a quilt throughout the city. A broken refrigerator littered one yard for what seemed like two-years.
That may be acceptable in Americus, South Georgia where the police chief came from, but you know what? I paid more for my home and pay higher taxes so that I can live in a community that exemplifies a more upscale feel.
More of Roswell’s leadership needs to retire and go back to South Georgia where broken appliances are standard fare on front porches and patchwork roads are common.
This is one of the poorest run city’s I have ever lived in. I think the City Manager is a red neck from South Georgia too, and, it maybe its her house with the broken refrigerator on the front porch.
The City of Roswell is totally overrated and could use a good enema to clean out its’ management team. Instead of spending $1.9-million on the gateway to the city, spend more of it on our roads where are residences are. After all, wouldn’t the cops like it better too where they set up their ridiculous traps? Citizens of Roswell, let’s do better and replace these managers with NO more country down-home folks. Let’s get a little more sophistication...
