Governments Should Swear Oaths Too

In 1953 (Korean Conflict) I was commissioned a Lieutenant in the Air Force. Prior to being commissioned, I swore an oath to support and protect the Constitution of the United States of America the same as all Americans do when entering the Armed Forces.

And now, 56 years later, I just learned that the Roswell Citizens who have been appointed by the Mayor and six Council Members to the 12 Boards/Commissions are not required to swear an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and State of Georgia, and in addition, “… without fear, favor or affections” with the Oath ending with the words, “So help me God” (see Section Ch. 3.120, Roswell City Charter). This is absolutely a disgrace.

I am asking that Roswell citizens who served in the Armed Forces of the United States: please write or call the six members of the Roswell City Council, and demand that an oath be given to all Roswell citizens serving on their Boards/Commissions that advise the Roswell City Council, and especially to the Board of Zoning Appeals that can bypass the Roswell City Council when issuing a denial judgment against Roswell Citizens/Property, causing them to seek redress in the Fulton County Superior Court.

Why is the Roswell City Council reluctant to include the oath in the operation of the “Governing Authority” of the city? Certainly the Oath is not “un-American.”
