Beacon Sports Editor John Breech Makes His Playoff Picks; Plus Playoff Previews

The North Fulton playoff teams are an odd bunch.

(Editor's Note: For quarter by quarter scores of all three of tonight's North Fulton playoff games, follow the Beacon on Twitter at Twitter.com/Beaconnewspaper)

I've only been doing two things for the last three days: eating month old onion straws and trying to decide who is going to win this week's playoff games.

The North Fulton playoff teams are an odd bunch. There's the first timer – Alpharetta. There's the state championship contender – Chattahoochee. And then there's Roswell, who I absolutely can't figure out. The Hornets could lose in the first round of the playoffs or make a run all the way to the dome, either one of those things could happen and I wouldn't be surprised at all.

So what's going to happen in the first round of the playoffs? Glad you asked.

Pope at Chattahoochee: If I could gamble legally on high school football and not have to take illegal side bets in the press box, Chattahoochee would definitely be my lock of the week. The Cougars scored at least 31 points in every regular season game they played this year. They also beat the opposition by an average of 33 points per game. This means Chattahoochee can score on whoever they want and nobody can score on them. They are the unstoppable force AND the immovable object, which isn't good news for Pope. I think Pope will score some points, but I don't think it's going to be close. I'll take Chattahoochee 42-21.

Parkview at Roswell: Back in 2005, these two teams played one of the most thrilling playoff games of the year, a contest that Parkview won 28-27. However, Roswell would get the last laugh because they would win the state championship the next year. Now what does 2005 have to with this year's playoffs you ask? Absolutely nothing. That's why I'm going to pick Roswell to win 20-14.

Alpharetta at Brookwood: I really want to pick Alpharetta to win this game. But then I look at Brookwood's regular season schedule and see that they beat an 8-2 South Gwinnett team 42-21. They also shutout Grayson. And of course they beat a 7-3 Walton team 27-10. On the other hand, Brookwood is not invincible; they do have a loss, a 24-14 setback to a mediocre Dacula team. So here's what I have decided, I have decided to pick the upset. I think Mikal Abdul Saboor is going to score two touchdowns, I think Carlos Burse is going to score a touchdown and then someone who doesn't usually score touchdowns is going to score a touchdown. That's right Raiders fans, I'm picking your team to win 28-24.

As A Side Note: Our Managing Editor, John Fredericks, has picked the Raiders to win the state title. He should stick to politics.
