Roswell, GA (December 29, 2009)-The story, Outcasts United by Warren St. John, has been chosen by the Roswell Reads Selection Committee as this year’s book for the City’s communitywide reading program.
According to the book’s website, “Outcasts United follows a pivotal season in the life of the Fugees, their families and their charismatic coach as they struggle to build new lives in a fading town overwhelmed by change. Theirs is a story about resilience in the face of extraordinary hardship, the power of one person to make a difference and the daunting challenge of creating community in a place where people seem to have so little in common.”
“The Roswell Reads committee selected Outcasts United as a book which should appeal to readers of all ages,” explains Morgan Timmis, Historic & Cultural Affairs Manager. “With its themes of sports, refugee resettlement and its impact on a small southern community, we felt it would attract a very broad audience. And, the fact that the community is local makes it even more interesting for Roswell readers. We are extremely excited to be able to bring both the author and the Fugees’ coach to speak at our final event on March 20.”
Roswell Reads is a community reading program that works like a giant book club, but with many additional related activities to enhance the experience for all those who participate. Book discussion and programs involving the book and its content will be scheduled in the coming months. For a complete listing, visit www.roswellgov.com.
