Emory Johns Creek Hospital’s Laboratory has been recognized by the Georgia Public Health Laboratory and the Georgia Department of Human Resources as an Advanced Sentinel Lab.

Emory Johns Creek Hospital’s Laboratory has been recognized by the Georgia Public Health Laboratory and the Georgia Department of Human Resources as an Advanced Sentinel Lab.  Designation of laboratories in each state is made in partnership with the CDC.  Sentinel lab classifications are made based on the level of diagnostic testing abilities.  Advanced Sentinel Labs have the diagnostic capability to recognize, rule out and refer suspected agents of bioterrorism to the state Laboratory Response Network.  For a lab to be deemed an Advance Sentinel Lab, other stringent criteria are met, including policies, procedures and training in biosafety and decontamination.  “We are very proud to have this designation – it speaks volumes about the quality and skill level of our staff, their training and the technology available to us,” said Laurie Hansen, Director of Laboratory Services at the Hospital.   .
