We all know that small businesses are hurting in this tough economy. But some communities are stepping up and being proactive about helping their businesses by drumming up support for “buy local” movements.

Similar to the food mantra that has caused numerous Farmers’ Markets to pop up and thrive, Roswell kicked off its “Find It All” campaign Friday afternoon on the historic square by unveiling goodies for businesses and shoppers alike to keep that much needed money within the city limits.

“If you are a Roswell resident, come by the visitors center and we will give you the Find it All VIP card,” said Dottie Etris of the Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Businesses that sign on to be part of the program will be given a decal for their window and a counter card that lets people know that they are participant of the find it all program. If you If you do a special offer, you will be listed on the webpage of www.finditall.com and residents and businesses can go there and download the list of businesses and specials.”

The City Council enthusiastically chimed in to support the idea.

“This is the one time it’s OK to say spend all your money in one place,” said Councilwoman Lori Henry. “

“It’s not only the right thing to do economically, it’s the right thing to do environmentally,” said Councilman David Tolleson, referring to the saved gas spent on driving outside of the city.

“Residents need to stop and spend their money in Roswell instead of going across the county lines,” said Councilman Jerry Orlans. “We need everybody to jump out there and buy what you need in your local area.”
