Students at Findley Oaks Elementary School learn history from their museum.

When you walk into the majority of Fulton County elementary schools, at least those built after 1990, you will find a nearly identical floor plan. A well appointed front desk welcomes you, and administrative offices line the walls behind the desk. As you enter the front lobby, adjacent to the media center, you’ll find a relaxing room with sofas and chairs where parents might sit and wait for their children.

But the similarities stop there at Findley Oaks Elementary School. A museum, fashioned by an earlier PTA board, greets the families who proudly call Findley Oaks their home school. The time line, originating with the birth of Benjamin Findley in the late 1800’s is displayed, along with genuine artifacts of the time period. As a visitor, you would learn how the Findley family made their home in Georgia. A Findley family tree, framed to display genealogical roots, traces their heritage.

There is a true sense of pride in the school. There is a pride of a heritage of family roots, along with the students’ accomplishments of 2009 in Johns Creek. At the end of the timeline, a handsome photograph of the newly built 1994 Findley Oaks Elementary reflects the promise of today’s hardworking families, united in effort to have their students succeed academically in Fulton County Schools.
