Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), North Fulton’s only professional theatre company, will present the delightfully wicked comical favorite Arsenic and Old Lace, November 5-22, 2009, at the Theatre’s home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center, 950 Forrest Street, Roswell, GA 30075. This production is directed by Artistic Director Robert J. Farley, and is sponsored by the Macy’s Foundation.

Arsenic and Old Lace was written in 1939 by American playwright Joseph Kesselring. The first Broadway production opened in 1941, and went on to play 1,444 performances over 3 ½ years, and featured Boris Karloff in the role of Jonathan Brewster. A revival of the play was mounted in 1986 at the 46th Street Theatre in New York, and the play continues to be widely performed in theatres throughout the U.S. and Europe.

The plot of the play revolves around Mortimer Brewster, a theatre-hating drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn as he debates whether to go through with his recent engagement to the woman he loves. His two spinster aunts regularly murder lonely old men by poisoning them with arsenic-laced wine. One brother thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt. And another brother has recently had plastic surgery to conceal his murderous identity.
