Darlene Walsh, of Roswell, was presented recently with the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB) 2009 Outstanding Archives Award for Excellence in Local History Advocacy.

Roswellian Darlene Walsh was the recipient of the 2009 GHRAB Award for Local History Advocacy. She was presented the award by David Carmichael, the director of Georgia Archives.  

Darlene Walsh, of Roswell, was presented recently with the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB) 2009 Outstanding Archives Award for Excellence in Local History Advocacy. The award ceremony was presented in Morrow, GA, at the Georgia Archives, on October 5.


Walsh was recognized for over 30 years of work, largely through volunteer efforts, to preserve and share the history of Roswell. In 1993, she co-founded the Roswell Historical Society/ City of Roswell Research Library and Archives. She served as the archivist from 1993-1999 and continues to volunteer each month. Walsh has helped to educate others about the history of Roswell through a variety of visual and interactive exhibits and televised programs. She is the editor of several books, including “Roswell: A Pictorial History,” which sold 3,000 copies to benefit the Roswell Historical Society. She and a co-editor recently published “Providence: Selected Correspondence of George Hull Camp,” a collection of letters written during the 19th century that opens a window on the history of life in Roswell, Marietta, the Georgia Coast and western New York.


GHRAB Archives Awards Program was created in 2003 to recognize outstanding efforts in archives and records programs in Georgia. GHRAB promotes the educational use of Georgia’s documentary heritage by all its citizens, evaluates and improves the conditions of records, encourages statewide planning for preservation and access to Georgia’s historical records and advises the Secretary of State and Georgia Archives on issues concerning records.
