Unemployment seems to have stabilized in North Fulton County, hovering at about six percent. For a couple of dogs in Johns Creek though, it’s a full employment economy. They both got top jobs Monday night at the Johns Creek council meeting.

Nico and Dano, full-bred German Shepherds of Czech origin, took the “oath of office” as Johns Creek’s newest four-legged police officers. As such they can detain suspects and any evidence they “sniff out” is admissible in court. Each dog had to complete an exhaustive 18-month training program to get the job.

JC GOES GREEN

Johns Creek council members approved a conservation plan for sub-divisions that would require developers to set aside green space in new development applications. It may be a decade too late to make any difference, as much of Johns Creek is already built out. “It’s a good ordinance,” commented Councilwoman Liz Hausmann. “The reality is it’s about 10 years too late and unfortunately it won’t have much of an impact.” Hausmann explained how Johns Creek has been trying to preserve as much green space as they can in light of the fact that much of the development was planned well before Johns Creek became its own city. “We fought hard to keep a 150 year old oak tree on Old Alabama Road that was targeted for removal in the road widening,” Hausmann said. “We are an environmentally aware and conscious city and this ordinance emphasizes our desire to search for ways to beautify our city.”
