Harrison advocates on behalf of veterans who are seeking benefits for service-connected illnesses and injuries, or are in need of care at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Decatur.

Harrison, a Vietnam Veteran and past post commander, has assisted thousands of veterans to be approved for benefits, or provided help with appeals for those who are denied benefits.

Presenting the award on October 6th on behalf of the Alpharetta VFW post is member Bill Lusk, also a Vietnam Veteran and a Milton City Councilman.

LEGION POST TO BENEFIT FROM MILTON HS THEATRE

American Legion Post 201 and combat troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan will benefit from an upcoming performance produced by the Milton High School Theatre.

The play, “A Piece of My Heart” by Shirley Lauro, will be presented on Wednesday October 28th and Thursday October 29th at 7 p.m. in the Milton High School Auditorium. The play is a powerful true story of six women who served in Vietnam - five nurses and a Country-Western singer booked by an unscrupulous agent to entertain the troops. It portrays each woman before, during and after their tour of duty and ends with each leaving their personal token at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

The play is a tribute to our troops and, thanks to Drama Teacher Renee Denney, one dollar from each ticket sold will be donated to American Legion Post 201’s ongoing program of sending Care Packages to our troops engaged in the war on terror.

Thus far, the Post has sent more than 2,200 packages to our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, Milton Theatre will also be accepting items to include in the packages such as toiletries, non-perishable foods, snacks, coffee, books and magazines.

According to Post Commander Bob Byrd, “We are touched by this thoughtful and patriotic gesture by Mrs. Denney and her drama students.  It’s been more than 35 years since the war in Vietnam ended, but many of us - especially those who served in Vietnam - are still coming to terms with all the issues involved.”

Commander Byrd expressed his gratitude to Renee Denney on behalf of the 825 wartime veterans of Post 201.
