Roswell Mayor Jere Wood Blasts Redistricting Plan (05/19/11)
Who taught the Fulton County School Board math?
The Fulton County School Board is changing local school districts to move 840 Roswell students to schools outside of the City, while sending 900 students from Alpharetta and Milton to schools in Roswell. They have justified this change by saying that Roswell schools are over-crowded. Who taught them math?
From the days I attended Roswell High to today, students from Roswell have attended schools in their hometown. This connection has helped Roswell schools in fundraising, building school spirit, and convincing Roswell voters to approve sales tax levies for Roswell schools. It has helped the City of Roswell develop a sense of community, and loyalty to Roswell businesses and institutions.
By sending Roswell students to schools outside of their hometown, the School Board is hurting both the City and its schools.
The School Board's numbers don't add up. It is not necessary to send Roswell students to schools in Alpharetta and Milton.
