Roswell Needs Transparency (06.03.11)
In challenging economic times, we need innovative solutions to ensure transparency
Roswell City Council added and approved approximately $1.2 million in additional operating expenditures Wednesday night; the only item removed was the $30 thousand needed to equip and produce the broadcast of council meetings.
Regardless of one's point of view on various issues, Roswell citizens have a vested interest in government proceedings being accessible. The issue of insuring open government is especially true since not everyone can always be there in person. Most would agree televising the council meetings is a step in the right direction.
In challenging economic times, we need innovative solutions to ensure transparency. Instead of posting video following the event, why not find advertisers to sponsor the internet live streaming of council meetings? Transparency is vital to citizens of Roswell.vTelevised meetings have become the norm throughout the region.vMy vote is for transparency in our city government.
