Recycling Center Launches Vegetable Oil Recycling
The City of Roswell Recycling Center will be launching a new vegetable oil recycling program beginning November 1. The Roswell Recycling Center is located at 11570 Maxwell Road, Alpharetta 30009.
To recycle used vegetable oil, cool the oil completely and then pour into a reusable container like a plastic jug/bottle or a tin can. Used vegetable oil must be pourable to be recycled.
Vegetable oil should never be poured down sink drains, as it clogs sewer pipes and septic systems. Here are a few other helpful tips and facts about vegetable oil (compiled from earth911.com):
You can recycle cooking oil and motor oil, but never mix them. They are different substances which go through different recycling processes. Mixing results in the inability to recycle either one.
Plan ahead when planning to recycle. Don’t wait until you have a pan of leftover oil to dump. Make a designated waste oil container, label it and put it somewhere everyone in your home can easily access.
Grease sticks to pipes in small particles which catch each other, collecting until the mass is large enough to block, and thus backup, sewage lines.
Cooking oil and kitchen grease in our plumbing is the number one cause of stopped up sewer pipes.
Try putting up a “no grease here” sign or other reminder for you and your family. After you’ve all establish better habits, you can take it down again.
The Roswell Recycling Center is open seven days a week: Monday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call 770.442.8822, visit www.roswellgov.com, or follow the Roswell Recycling Center on Facebook for news and announcements.
