An act of kindness can go a long way.

On Friday, the Home Depot displayed their kindness for the students and staff of the Porter Academy, in Roswell, by donating money, time and volunteers to help refurbish the school.

Volunteers came from several Home Depot stores to power wash the exterior of the buildings, plant a garden, put down mulch in the playground and do a general fix-up.

“They did a wonderful job of helping us,” said Barbara Ramer, principal of the Porter Academy. “It started as one of the teachers saying, ‘why don’t we spruce up the school and do some things?’ One of our employees checked with Home Depot, who sent someone out here from the corporate office.” In conjunction with the Home Depot volunteers, the students and parents all chipped in to make their school that much better.

Founded in 2000, the Porter Academy specializes in teaching students with language-based learning disabilities, sensory integration disorders, and mild to moderate learning-style differences who have not been successful in a traditional classroom setting.
