Wood's All Washed Out (05/25/11)

Jere Wood's Shameful Spin Game

In response to Mayor Woods' comments posted in The Beacon:

"Roswell Mayor Jere Wood Blasts Redistricting Plan (05/19/11)

Who taught the Fulton County School Board Math?," which apparently goes along with an E-mail that is being circulated --

Mayor Wood, you are playing the spin game with the facts by counting students from Alpharetta and Milton who attend the Fulton schools that are in East Roswell (Hillside, Northwood, River Eves, Centennial) in the number of students "sent to schools in Roswell" which has nothing to do the overcrowding of Roswell High School and the reason for "students being sent out of the city."

The only way to have city residents attend schools within their city limit is to move away from a county school district to a more localized government and have city run districts as they have in the Pittsburgh and other northern areas. Many people, myself included, might consider this a step in the righ t direction, especially those who support Milton County. But, good luck with that as the Black Caucus is already suing over the creation of cities let alone schools districts. Hopefully, everyone who sees that E-mail, and reads your article, will not fall for your fuzzy math.
On a side note, Mayor Wood, you might take a moment to consider who your constituents are before taking sides in non-city issues; East Roswell may get fed up and find another politician who considers them Roswell residents. [Remember David Tolleson?]
