"Yes I Can" Awards for Special Students


This year, 320 special education students were recognized at the school level with Yes I Can! Awards from The Foundation for Exceptional Children.

This year, 320 special education students were recognized at the school level with Yes I Can! Awards from The Foundation for Exceptional Children. And among the forty-four finalists were honored recently at the annual celebration ceremony at Mercer University was Roswell's Abby Germany. The finalists were selected based on their Yes I Can! spirit.

The Yes I Can! Award was established in 1981 to acknowledge the achievements of children and youth with disabilities; to overcome barriers caused by public misconceptions; to encourage children and youth with disabilities to seek their greatest potential, and to increase public awareness of the abilities, aspirations and personal qualities of persons with disabilities. In 2001, the Mamie Jo Jones Chapter, Council for Exceptional Children began the Yes I Can! recognition in Fulton County Schools.


Achievements recognized in the Yes I Can! Celebrations are in the areas of: academics, arts, athletics, community service, employment, extra curricular activities and independent living.
