Hooch Dominates All-Beacon Football Team

One month after claiming the AAAA state football title, Chattahoochee is claiming another title: most players on the All-Beacon football team. Of the 47 players named first or second team All-Beacon, 13 of them were from Chattahoochee.

The list of Cougars includes Beacon player of the year Timmy Byerly and the Beacon's coach of the year, Terry Crowder. Byerly led the North Fulton area in both rushing yards and passing yards. The Hooch senior threw for 2,644 yards, while completing 170 of the 249 passes he attempted (68 percent). Byerly also threw 30 touchdown passes to only two interceptions.

Another first-teamer is Byerly's Chattahoochee teammate Kane Whitehurst. Whitehurst transferred to Chattahoochee in January 2010 and spent the offseason catching passes and running routes for Byerly. The hard work paid off as Whitehurst finished his senior year with 1,378 receiving yards and 17 touchdown catches, both school records.

Another team that was represented on the All-Beacon squad was Roswell. The Hornets, who advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, landed five players on the Beacon's first team, including offensive lineman Joe Turner and punter Ty Long.

Alpharetta, who made the playoffs for the first time in school history, landed two players on the All-Beacon first team: wide receiver Carlos Burse and defensive linemen Malon Neal. Four Raiders were named to the All-Beacon second team, giving them a total of six, which tied Roswell for the second most on the first and second teams combined.
