Centennial Stuns Roswell; Knights Get First Win Over Hornets Since 2002
Going into Friday night's heated clash between Roswell and Centennial, history said that the Hornets were probably going to win the game.
(Editor's Note: We would like to apologize to our Roswell and Centennial fans. We did in fact have a reporter at Friday's game, however, due to a personal matter, they were unable to turn in a story by press time. This Editor's note also appeared in our Oct. 10 print edition.)

Going into Friday night's heated clash between Roswell and Centennial, history said that the Hornets were probably going to win the game. After all, not only was Roswell leading the all-time series 10-1, but Knight Coach Jeff Measor was 0-3 against the hated rivals. As a matter of fact, in the last two years, Centennial had been outscored 71-22.
However, with a simple 1-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, Centennial's Carslon Carty was able to erase almost a decade of misery as the Knights stunned Roswell 17-14 for their first win in the series since 2002.
Carty, the Knight's senior workhorse, ran for 174 yards and Centennial's only two touchdowns.
The biggest drive of the night for Centennial came in the game's final period. Trailing 14-10 midway through the fourth quarter, the Knights were at their own 20 and they needed to go 80-yards to win the game.
Behind five Carty carries and a 38-yard Sean Gilrain-to-Tony Bradely pass play, the Knights drove down to the Roswell 1-yard line where Carty punched it for what proved to be the winning points.
The game wasn't iced though until Centennial safety Dartez Jacobs intercepted J.P. Douglas on Roswell's final possession of the night.
Besides Carty's two touchdowns, Centennial also got five points from kicker Connor Davis. On the night, Davis nailed two extra points and a huge 38-yard field goal. Knight quarterback Sean Gilrain was 6-of-9 in the game for 107 yards, Bradely was on the receiving end of 92 of those.
With the win, Measor now has the Knights (4-3, 2-1) on track to earn consecutive playoff berths for the first time since 2001-02. Centennial -- who is off this week -- sits in second place in Region 6-AAAAA. After the bye, Centennial will close the season with North Forsyth, Alpharetta and a team that's winless in region play: Northview.
The loss complicates things for Roswell (2-4, 1-1). The Hornets will host an Alpharetta (4-3, 1-2) team on Friday that's desperate for a victory. Roswell closes the season with first place West Forsyth (6-1, 3-0) on Oct. 29 and Milton (2-4, 1-1) on Nov. 5.
