So Who's Going to Make the Playoffs? Glad You Asked

Lets get this whole playoff thing out of the way right now: Roswell, West Forsyth and North Forsyth have clinched playoff berths. That means Region 6-AAAAA has one more berth and either Centennial, Alpharetta or Milton is going to get it. For suspense purposes, you'll have to read this whole column, to find out what I think.

In Region 7-AAAA, Chattahoochee has everything wrapped up. If they wanted too, they could forfeit Friday's game and take a team trip to Tahiti.

In Region 6-AA, Blessed Trinity will play Greater Atlanta Christian with the winner going to the playoffs.

In Region 5-A, there are no teams going to the playoffs.

And again, because I'm all about suspense, I'm going to make my picks in order from the games with the least amount of playoff implications to the games with the most.

Fellowship vs. Strong Rock: Here's what I know about Strong Rock, besides the fact that they are named after a rock. They only won one game this year and that was a 1-0 win. How do you win a game 1-0 you ask? The other team forfeit the game. I'll take Fellowship 20-7.

King's Ridge vs. Southwest Atlanta Christian: Here's what I know about Southwest Atlanta Christian – they lost to Fellowship. That doesn't  mean they're horrible, it just means they lost to Fellowship. King's Ridge wants to end their inaugural GHSA season on a high note, I'll take the Tigers 27-7.

Mt. Pisgah at First Presbyterian Day: I don't know if it's just me, but First Presbyterian Day sounds like the name of an elementary school. I don't think Mt. Pisgah is going to lose to an elementary school. I'll take the Patriots 28-24. (FPD is actually pretty good, had they not been forced to forfeit to Strong Rock, they would be in a region playoff game right now).

Johns Creek at Forsyth Central: Forsyth Central has the same exact helmet design as the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately for Forsyth Central though, they are not the Chicago Bears. They are a lot worse than the Chicago Bears. I'll take Johns Creek 30-20 over the fake Chicago Bears.

Chattahoochee at Rome: This game has no playoff implications for the Cougars. They could win by 90, they could lose, Coach Crowder could play his eighth grade team if he wanted too; it doesn't matter. On the other hand, I know this team wants to go undefeated, I'll say they do. Hooch wins this game 42-14.

Now lets get to the games that matter.

Blessed Trinity at Greater Atlanta Christian: The playoffs start one week early for BT as the winner of this game advances to the postseason. These two teams played in September; BT turned the ball over 90 times and lost 31-17. I think this will be closer, but I think the result will be the same. I'll take GAC over the Titans 21-17.

Centennial at Northview: For Centennial, it's simple, win and their in… Wait, actually, it's not that simple at all. If the Knights win, they need Alpharetta to lose. However, if Centennial wins and Alpharetta wins, Centennial can still get in the playoffs if Milton upsets Roswell. Are you still with me? Centennial should have a big enough lead by halftime that they can head over to Alpharetta and catch the second half of the Raiders game against North Forsyth. I'll take the Knights 31-7.

Roswell at Milton: If there is one stat that Milton leads the country in, it's injuries. Pretty much everyone on the team has been injured at some point this season. If there is one stat Roswell leads the country in, its most state titles by a school who's nickname is the Hornets. I like Roswell's stat better, plus they pummeled West Forsyth. I'll take the Hornets 31-21.

North Forsyth at Alpharetta: This is the game it all comes down too. If my predictions hold up – and they will, because I'm 13-2 over the last two weeks – it means that Alpharetta is in the playoffs with a win and Centennial is in if Alpharetta loses. So can Alpharetta go from 'left for dead' two weeks ago to 'not dead at all and actually might shock a team in the first round of the playoffs?' I say yes, I'll take Alpharetta 35-28.

By the way, if Alpharetta, Milton and Centennial all win, the three teams will be tied at 3-3 in the region. I don't have a degree in advanced thermonuclear mathematics, so I'm not sure who will win the tiebreakers. You have to take into account things like points scored and points surrendered and since I don't know how many points anyone is scoring on Friday, I don't know who will make it. This means, be sure to check out beaconcast.com on Friday night.
