Three Hour and 52-Minute Trip to Statesboro was Worth It

I hate driving. If I was rich and I could afford it, I would hire a chauffeur and if my chauffeur hated driving, I would hire a chauffeur for him. The point here is that last Saturday, I stared at my cell phone for three hours waiting for Chattahoochee coach Terry Crowder to text message me. I was like a teenage girl waiting to get her first phone call from a boy.
Crowder's text was going to say one of two things, either "We're going to Statesboro," or "The game's at Chattahoochee." Since God is still mad at me for not getting my 3-year old nephew a birthday present last month, I knew Hooch was headed to Statesboro. And of course, Crowder confirmed it at about 3 p.m. with a text.
The Town of Statesboro
Now yes, I do hate driving, but I love exploring new cities. I've never been to Statesboro – as matter of fact, except for Savannah, I've never been to a city in Georgia that's not in Fulton County. Pathetic, I know. The first thing I did in Statesboro was head to where all the locals were: Wal-Mart. Half the town was there. I parked about a mile a way from the store. On my way to the entrance, I saw a woman trying to sell puppies and another guy trying to sell flowers. I also saw one of the puppies eat one of the flowers, I'm not sure if the puppy lady had to pay for that.
The Game
If you weren't one of the 700 Chattahoochee fans at the game, then you need to turn to page 4 and read the entire game story now. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, something else happened: a Chattahoochee fumble at the Statesboro 1-yard line, a 17-play Statesboro drive that lasted half of the second half. It was absolutely crazy, especially Ammon Lakip's game-winning field goal.
As the kick left Lakip's right foot, everyone in the stadium knew it was low. The craziest part though: both sides of the stadium started cheering. Statesboro fans thought it was going to be too low, Chattahoochee fans knew it was right down the middle, but they wondered if it would be high enough?
For one split second, both teams thought they had won. Then the refs put their hands up signaling the kick was good, which was a pretty clear indicator that both teams didn't win. Lakip's kick cleared the crossbar by about a yard and in football; sometimes that's the difference between winning and losing.
The State Championship Pick
Forget AAAAA, forget AAA, forget AA, and forget A. The best state championship game in Georgia this season is hands down Chattahoochee against Starr's Mill. Two undefeated teams, two teams that crush every one they face, two teams that won their semifinal games by one point and two teams playing in the state championship for the first time. I've picked Chattahoochee to win 14 times this season and they've won 14 times, I really don't want to jinx anyone, so I think I should probably to pick them to win for a 15th time. Plus, I really like Cougars (wink, wink).
I think Chattahoochee wins the AAAA Georgia state championship with a 27-24 win over Starr's Mill.
