Will Hooch Win Every State Title?

By now, I'm sure you’ve heard that the Chattahoochee football team won the AAAA state football title. If you haven't heard, here's what happened: the Chattahoochee football team won the AAAA state football title.
Friday night, I got to check out the Hooch boys and girls basketball teams for the first this season (game stories on pg. 37) and let me just say this: someone in the administrative office at Chattahoochee needs to call a carpenter because there going to need to extend the trophy case by about 10 feet. There is no way all of the state title trophies that the school is going to win this season are going to fit in it.
Now will the boys and girls both win the state title? Probably not. But both teams definitely have the talent.
On the girls side, the team has shot off to a 14-2 start and that's with their best player – Erika Ford – sitting on the bench with a knee injury. Point guard Kayla Upchurch has taken command of the team. I watched Courtney Froats make about 10 3-pointers Friday and Alexis Alexander scores at will in the post. If Ford gets back in time for the state tournament, I don't see anything less than a Final Four for the Cougars.
On the boys side, the Cougars are fifth in the state and led by the unstoppable force – junior Jaron Blossomgame. Last week, I compared Blossomgame to Kevin Durant, however, if Blossomgame continues his phenomenal season (he scored a school record 42 points in a game back on January 7), come March, people might be comparing Durant to Blossomgame. Also, I should note that Hooch sophomore Markus Terry would crush me in a game of 1-on-1. Blossomgame, Terry and the Hooch squad are going to be a tough out come state tournament time.
This week's basketball picks:
Alpharetta at Roswell (Girls, Thursday, 6 p.m.): Not that North Forsyth is a basketball power, but Alpharetta beat them on Friday 64-14. And no, that is not a typo, North Forsyth only scored 14 points. The other thing I should note: Alpharetta beat Chattahoochee, you know, the Chattahoochee team I mentioned above as possibly winning the state title this year. Also, the Lady Raiders swept the regular season series last year, what does that have to do with this year you ask? Absolutely nothing, I just wanted to give myself another reason to pick Alpharetta. Lets say Lady Raiders 49-46 over the Lady Hornets.
Milton at Centennial (Boys, Friday, 7:30 p.m.): You know what makes my life easy: when a team from North Fulton plays on ESPNU. If you've ever seen me at a basketball game, you might notice that my head spins back and forth for two hours as a I try to keep track of points, rebounds, steals, assists, blocks and fouls. Well, when a local team plays on ESPNU, the network does all of the work for me!! So if any local coaches are reading, remember this when you're setting your schedule for next season: the more games on national TV, the better. Anyway, Milton beat the No. 1 team in the world last week (Oak Hill Academy (Va.), which means I'm going to have to pick them here. Eagles 90-67 over Centennial.
