Your Favorite High School Picks Column is Back

At halftime of the Johns Creek-Chattahoochee game on Friday, a parent came up to me and asked me why I wasn't doing any picks this year.

At halftime of the Johns Creek-Chattahoochee game on Friday, a parent came up to me and asked me why I wasn't doing any picks this year. I quickly came up with some long drawn out, made up reason about how my fingers are sore because I planted a tomato garden in August and I have to keep my typing to a minimum because of my sore fingers.

It was all a lie, I mean I don't even think it's tomato season, not to mention, I don't even like tomatoes. And to be completely honest, I hate the whole idea of gardening. Processed food is where's it at. Sure your doctor always says to eat natural stuff and to cut down on the processed junk. But you know what, my doctor is 13 pounds overweight, so what does he know.

Anyway, the point here is that the picks are back. Every week until the end of the season, this column will be all picks all the time.

Mt. Pisgah at Fellowship: These are both Christian schools, so I wouldn't be surprised if thanks to an act of God (think lighting or an earthquake), the game ends in a tie. I don't think it will end in a tie though, I think it ends with Mt. Pisgah on top 27-7.

King's Ridge at Wesleyan: To be honest, this is the equivalent of Louisiana-Monroe playing Auburn. That game actually happened last Saturday, Auburn won 52-3. Wesleyan is the second ranked class A team in the state, I'll take them 52-14.

Jackson, Atlanta at Blessed Trinity: The Titan offense has kind of sputtered the past two weeks, only scoring two touchdowns in each of their last two games. However, nothing gets an offense back on track like a game against Jackson. I'll take BT 38-0.

Milton at Alpharetta: With Milton sitting at 1-4 and 0-1 in the region, this is a must-win game for them. As in, not only are their backs against the wall, but the walls on fire and about to collapse. The Milton defense is surrendering almost 31 points a game, Alpharetta is averaging almost 35 points per game. I'll take the Raiders 35-21.

Woodland, Bartow at Chattahoochee: Johns Creek scored 55 on Woodland two weeks ago. Without doing any other research, I'll take the Cougars 63-10. Chattahoochee coaches weren't happy about the team's first half play against Johns Creek, so I expect them to pile on this week.

West Forsyth at Northview: What happens when the first place team in Region 6-AAAAA (WF) plays the last place team (Northview)? We'll find out Friday, I'm thinking 49-7 West Forsyth.

Johns Creek at Lambert: If Johns Creek wants to make the playoffs in their first season eligibility, winning this game would help a lot. Quarterback Skye Overton, who left the Chattahoochee game with an injury, will be needed if the Gladiators are going to win. I say they pull the upset 24-21.

Roswell at Centennial: When Centennial is running their triple-option to perfection, it's almost impossible to stop. However, Roswell had a bye last week, so for the last 10 days they've been beating the crap out of some scout team guys who have been running the triple option. You need a disciplined defense to beat the Knights; Roswell has a disciplined defense. I'll take the Hornets 31-21.
